This application is the EDGE component of the RETENTION project. For the project please see https://www.retention-project.eu/.
From the patients’ perspective, the main avenue of monitoring and interaction with the RETENTION solution will be the RETENTION Edge Mobile Application. This purpose-developed application features a user-friendly interface that gathers and transmits usage data to Clinical Side Backend (CSB) from the patients that are part of the RETENTION study. It informs the end-users (patients) of the important parameters regarding their health and well-being and the management of their conditions and deliver messages.
Typical examples of such features include highlighting the need to walk more often or to avoid going out if the environmental conditions pose high risk (e.g., high particle count in the atmosphere), reminding pill intake, or facilitating messages from the monitoring clinical staff.
The Mobile Application focuses on wearable (bioelectronic) and medical devices, as well as on maintaining the RETENTION operation while the user is at home. The application will maintain a high level of abstraction and focus on usability, and to be operated by elderly people or others without technical background. The application timestamps and transforms the data, associate the data to a patient identifier and (in cases of devices/sensors’ data) aggregate data prior to their transmission to the CSB.
The Retention mobile application is now in the final stage, and has implemented the following:
• login to the RETENTION system via the app,
• collects usage data and feedback from patients or carers (on behalf of)
• connects via secure channel with the Clinical Side Backend,
• Uses Bluetooth Low energy devices.
• connects/pairs the provided devices to the smartphone via BLE.
• the patient easily visualizes the data transmitted to the CSB.
• The application will timestamp, associate to a patient identifier and (in cases of devices/sensors’ data) aggregate data prior to their transmission to the CSB.
• The application offers visualization of patient’s data.
• The application sends to the CSB the following data and functions:
o OMRON Weight Scale: measures participants body weight
o GARMIN Smartwatch: data of activity (steps, distance, stairs), sleep (hours and quality) and heart rate monitoring
o OMRON Blood Pressure Monitor: blood pressure and heart rate monitoring
o OMRON Oximeter: oxygen saturation, heart rate
o VAD data for the VAD patients (manual entry by the user)
o Body temperature (manual entry by the user)
o Photo upload of problematic areas of the patient (swollen areas, sore areas, bruised or scratched areas, etc.) (only for VAD patients and other special cases).
o Weekly check on the condition of the patient (or via the carer), thru a basic questionnaire and if the condition is worse, it will offer an advance health questionnaire for collection.
o The patient (or via the carer) will be monitored for the patient’s adherence to treatment (taking his medication timely and as prescribed).
o The application will receive personalized messages from CSB (from the monitoring Clinical team) and display them to the patient (or the carer).
Minimum configuration settings: patient identifier (stored encrypted), IMEI, Gmail account (for enabling automatic updates) and Wi-Fi credentials.
